Youth Mental Health Advocacy in Action: A Student Story We’re Proud to Share

This week, we’re celebrating an incredible story from one of our Mind Out Loud student leaders.

As part of its Mental Health Awareness Month campaign, Blue Shield of California is spotlighting Chloe Lau, a high school junior, passionate mental health advocate, and Mind Out Loud student representative, whose journey into leadership began with her own mental health story.

In the feature, Chloe shares how isolation during the pandemic and cultural stigma around mental health opened her eyes to the need for accessible, peer-driven support. Today, she’s helping lead national workshops, co-producing the Mind Out Loud podcast, and creating safe, empowering spaces for students across the country.

What Is Mind Out Loud?

Mind Out Loud (MOL) is a free, youth-powered program of online workshops, student-led committees, and an annual national event open to students ages 13 and up. It’s designed to equip, empower, and launch a generation of mental health advocates: helping students strengthen themselves, their schools, and their communities.

“What’s great about Mind Out Loud is that it reaches everyone across the country from different backgrounds, races, cities, rural areas—even globally,” Chloe shared. “Young people need spaces where we can feel seen and heard.”

Developed by Wellness Together and supported by Blue Shield of California’s BlueSky initiative, MOL started with a simple goal: expand the three A’sAccess, Awareness, and Advocacy—around school-based mental health. It has since evolved into a youth-led national platform, driven by real stories, real students, and real change.

Last week’s 2025 Mind Out Loud event brought together thousands of students for exactly that. It was a day of connection, storytelling, and community care centered on the voices of young people like Chloe.

Why This Matters

At Wellness Together, we believe students aren’t just participants in mental health conversations. They’re leaders. We’re honored to walk alongside students like Chloe, and we’re grateful to our partners at Blue Shield for helping to share these important stories.

Let’s keep listening. Let’s keep building. And let’s keep showing up for student mental health.
