Prior to MOL, I didn’t know a lot about mental health issues, but through presentations from the Research Committee and conversations with other MOL student reps, I learned a lot more about mental health issues and how to advocate for more mental health resources. Alina Garcia
STUDENT REP 2023-2024
“MOL has given me the opportunity to participate and take on leadership roles in the mental health space through the opportunities presented from program itself as well as empowering me to step out into the mental health space as a student in own my school district. I was given the opportunity to present in a small breakout group at my district mental health summit and interview a student on my campus to promote the student voice in mental health advocacy. Being a member of a program that holds so much importance has given me a sense of purpose and power towards my personal mental health challenges. I've also learned so much about different mental health resources that reach local communities and others that are nationwide, which I hope to get involved in as I part ways with the MOL program. I hold so much gratitude towards this program as it has had a huge impact on my courage to step out as an advocate and learn to have a stronger voice for the issues I feel strongly about. I want to thank Zoë and all the student directors and reps at mind out loud for making this experience so valuable to me and empowering me in my journey as a mental health advocate.”
